It follows a structured and progressive "spiral" learning model delivered part-time over 3 years where foundational concepts are reinforced and built upon layer-by-layer. The programme includes:
Core theoretical training through flexible online modules Delivered online one day per fortnight during term time (typically Friday or Saturday) with additional flexible self-study, supported by COMD provided learning resources, driving independent learning.
Clinical application and skills development in simulated settings using advanced technologies including cadavers. A technique course of 1-2 weeks is provided at the beginning of each year which delivers training on advanced techniques, in a simulated environment. Combined with the theoretical learning, this equips you with the skills in non-surgical and surgical periodontal procedures, instrumentation, case simulation and other advanced techniques to provide care on patients in your own clinic. Where appropriate, the theoretical training includes training on cadaveric material in order to provide the best preparation for actual patient treatment.
For international students COMD provides support with visa application and accommodation arrangements for these blocks of “hands-on” training.
Learn in state-of-the-art facilities taught and supported by UK- or US- trained experts, graduates of the MSc in Periodontics will be well-prepared for a range of advanced clinical and academic opportunities. The programme is designed to support clinicians on their pathway towards specialist recognition, advanced private practice or leadership roles in dental education.
